Engadget on TiVoAnywhere

The blog community is picking up on Orb Networks' new API and some of the Add-ons being written with it, like TiVoAnywhere.   Engadget writes:

Orb Networks opened up their API a few days ago, they must have figured out that loosening up and letting developers (and the rest of us) create third-party plug-ins for their placeshifting app is an easy way to add value and make their product even more attractive to customers (Sony, are you listening?).

iTunes-like Popularity

You have to be happy when your product is compared to something like iTunes... the folks at PCSIntel have blogged about how well Orb works on the Sprint PCS phone network and mention how popular Orb has become:

Orb has been growing, and growing, and growing to a point where it has reached an almost iTunes-like popularity in the technocratic world.

Skype VM to go!!

Unlike some of the other free voicemail for Skype solutions, V4S provides notifications of new voicemails and allows you to access your voicemails from anywhere (including your mobile phone) using Orb!  Just log on to your Orb user account from any Internet connected device and the Skype voicemail messages are just audio files that you can stream over the Internet (just like any other audio file) through a 3GP, Real, or Windows Media player.

Get V4S from our download page:

Orb Screensaver!

In my latest post I write about how I am using Orb's new screensaver...

Here is how I use this feature -- grandma always wants to see the latest photos of her granddaughter.  I gave her the screensaver and now I can update the photos (just by adding them to the shared folder on my home machine) and they auto-magically show up on my mother's screen!

Or just go download it here:

Orb vs. MobiTV

Great post over at myphonerocks.com comparing MobiTV and Orb Media.

The post ends with the comment:

For me, Orb is the way to go. It’s free, it’s more flexible and there’s a lot more available content. However, not everyone has the necessary equipment, time and know-how to set it up. For a lot of people MobiTV may be the way to go simply because it’s easier to get started. All in all, these are both really cool services. Once again, just make sure you have an unlimited data plan or you’re going to end up with a nasty surprise on your phone bill at the end of the month.

Mobile Magazine Reviews Orb

Mobile Magazine loves Orb Media for what it is capable of, but tells us we have more work to do on the interface  (we are hard at work on this! so stay tuned!)  Here is what they have to say, in part...

"We've long harbored the dream of being able to access all our media no matter where we go. But since there's no media player with half a terabyte of storage, that dream has been out of reach. Orb Networks' new product aims to change that..."

"This is pretty damn cool. Overall, the quality of the audio and video we streamed was stunningly good, and much better than we expected."

"But here's the bad part: The user interface falls well short of the technology behind it. Orb's web-based interface uses small, cryptic buttons for key functions such as adding a song or video to your favorites list, or even playing a file. You'd think that there would be a big red button that says "Play," but instead it's a small button at the far upper right of the screen."

Orb Media in Retail

"I have to tell you from sitting in the Sprint store here in Florida that we are getting FANTASTIC exposure. Sprint Personal Media Link powered by Orb is featured prominently on a 41" plasma screen right when you walk into the store. Awesome!"
